Tell The Taxpayer is an effort to compel Tennessee’s Senator Lamar Alexander to break his silence about the new bomb plant in Tennessee through good old grassroots political activism. We’re not asking him to do anything radical—just do his job.
You can find out about the campaign and access the Fact Sheets/Talking Points you need on this web site. Check out the sidebar on the right hand side of the web page for fact sheets and talking points. And if you don’t find what you need, contact us: email@example.com or 865 776 5050.
Thanks for your help!
OREPA ASKS FOR YOUR HELP WITH THE
TELL THE TAXPAYER CAMPAIGN IN NOVEMBER
STOPPING THE BOMB PLANT IN OAK RIDGE
STARTS WITH ACCOUNTABILITY
$2 Billion dollars has been spent since 2010 on designing the Uranium Processing Facility bomb plant slated for Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
How much will the bomb plant cost?
Will it be safe, or are they cutting corners?
When will they start building?
When will they finish?
Will workers be protected?
Will the new technology work?
What will be the environmental impact?
WE HAVE NO IDEA.
Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander, who holds the purse strings for the bomb plant, holds secret meetings with the contractor (Bechtel) every few months. He emerges to assure us we have nothing to worry about. Meanwhile, he keeps writing checks—with our money!—and we get no answers.
WE WANT ANSWERS. WITH YOUR HELP WE’LL GET THEM.
Tell the Taxpayer is a campaign to generate more than 150 letters to Lamar Alexander in a thirty day period—November 9 – December 8—while Congress is debating the FY 2016 budget, which includes 430 million more dollars for the UPF bomb plant design. The new budget is due December 11, when the current Continuing Resolution runs out.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Write a letter to Lamar. See our Talking Points, choose your message and write. Send it via his web site or snail mail. Report it on the Tell the Taxpayer facebook page or by email to orepa so we can keep track.
If you belong to a progressive group, please ask for 15 minutes at your November meeting to write letters—this is how we will get 150 letters. If you want an OREPA member to come to your meeting to offer guidance, let us know and we’ll do our best to get there.
If you have a newsletter or listserv, please help us promote this campaign and encourage letter writing.
WE HAVE A CHANCE TO PUT THE BRAKES ON THE BOMB PLANT.
It starts with accountability.
You can find information (Talking Points, addresses, etc) on OREPA’s web site and at Tell the Taxpayer on facebook. You can track the campaign’s progress on the facebook page as well.
We hope to create a Twitter effort as well.
WE’RE STARTING IN TENNESSEE IN NOVEMBER—if Lamar continues to protect Bechtel and hide information from the public, we expect to mount a broader campaign aimed at key members of Congress.
Please join us for this push.
